Gyula Castle
Built in the 15th century, it is now the only intact lowland brick castle from the medieval Kingdom of Hungary, where visitors can explore nearly seven centuries of history across its 24 exhibition rooms. The viewing platform offers a beautiful panoramic view of the town. Its construction is attributed to János Maróti, Ban of Macsó, whilst its further development is linked to the name of János Corvin. It was he who commissioned the construction of the round cannon tower (rondella) located near the so-called Kerecsényi Gate, which is known in technical terms as the Corvin Bastion.
Today, the castle shows how the lord and lady of the castle lived, how the office of the Turkish sanjak-bey differed from that of the Hungarian lord of the castle, and what weapons were used in battle over the past centuries. Interactive digital tools are on hand to help you visualise the siege and the structure of the 16th-century castle.
Free guided tours are available every day the museum is open, from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm!
Gyula Castle Baths
One of Hungary’s most beautiful spas, the Gyula Castle Spa, was built within the 8.5-hectare grounds of the former Almássy Castle and is now a nature reserve. The thoughtful layout of the pools means that even with 10,000 visitors a day, it is still possible to find a quiet spot to relax within the spa grounds. The Gyula Castle Spa boasts a water surface area of 5,500 m² and a total of 23 pools. The 72 °C alkaline-hydrocarbonate-chloride thermal water, which rises from a depth of 2,005 metres, is primarily used to treat musculoskeletal disorders of degenerative origin, chronic neurological disorders, rehabilitation following accidents or surgery, and chronic inflammatory gynaecological conditions, with excellent results.

- Medicine and thermal waters: The alkaline-bicarbonate and chloride-rich thermal water, which rises from deep underground, is ideally suited to the treatment of musculoskeletal complaints, rheumatic conditions and rehabilitation therapies.
- AquaPalota: The indoor water park welcomes families all year round with giant slides, a lazy river, waterfalls and separate children’s pools.
- Castello Sauna Park: Outdoor and indoor saunas, steam rooms, bucket showers and regular sauna sessions ensure complete relaxation.
- Beach: During the summer season, visitors can enjoy a vast green space, a wave pool, a competition pool and a variety of catering outlets.
Almássy Castle, Gyula
The Almásy Castle in Gyula (officially known as the Gyula Almásy Castle Visitor Centre) is a stunning 18th-century castle situated in the heart of Gyula, right next to the Gyula Castle Spa. Today, the building houses an extremely modern, interactive exhibition which presents the everyday lives of the aristocracy and the servants who looked after them in a unique way.
